Title: Eleanor and Park
Author: Rainbow Rowell
My rating: 5
Summary: Eleanor and Park are two misfits who are totally in the wrong place. Eleanor is fat, red headed and has all the wrong clothes. And then there’s Park who, with his nose in a book, is trying his best to be Invisible. Set over the course of a school year this is the story of star-crossed teens who fall for each other.
My thoughts: This book has been quite popular for quite long but I had never really wanted to read it. I thought that it was going to be typical love story. After a lot of people wanting me to read this book I finally started it and realized how wrong I was.
This was the first Rainbow Rowell book that I read and after this one I fell in love with her books. So this may seem like a normal love story but it is so much more than that.
The characters of the book are amazing. Park is the guy at the back of the bus who isn’t really into socializing. He obsessed with music and comics and trying to be invisible. And Eleanor is a huge misfit. She is fat and red headed and wears over sized boy clothes.
This is a book about bullying and not fitting in. From the moment Eleanor enters the bus she becomes a target of bullying and Park is the only one who is willing to let her sit next to him. Then from reading Park’s comics over his shoulder they become friends.
This book also shows how everyone is living a hard life no matter what it seems like. Park’s family is so much peaceful than Eleanor’s. Eleanor envies Park as back at her house everyone is always fighting but we later come to know how unhappy Park is because he doesn’t have the same interests as his family and is trying hard to fit in.
The dual narration of this book shows how different the views of people on a single event be. This book is the cutest love story you will ever read. It will make you bawl your eyes out at the end but it’s totally worth it.
